Beginning today, everyone at Lafayette can create and manage their own Google Groups by going to groups.google.com. These self-service Google Groups provide not only an easy way to communicate with group members, they also allow for easier access-control to other Google services. For instance, a Google Group can be used to manage access to a Google Shared drive or a Google Chat Room, as well as can be used to create an invitation to a Google Calendar event rather than inviting members individually.
These self-service Google Groups will have a “.group” suffix appended to their names (e.g., gryffindor.group@lafayette.edu), however ITS will continue to evaluate requests sent to help@lafayette.edu for those wanting a Google Group without the “.group” suffix. To help the Lafayette community become more accustomed to using and creating Google Groups on their own, ITS encourages everyone to review the Google Groups documentation on the Help website.
